Captain Kisaragi Kaya

Kisaragi Kaya was born on the 12th of february, 1990, in the middle of a snow storm in Hokkaido. Coming from a somewhat well-off business family, she didn't face any hardship during her early life and grew up quite spoiled. Being the firstborn and never getting any siblings, her mother made sure she had everything she wanted and had every path open to her in life.

Kaya did spend many summers with her mother's parents who were a lot stricter than her own, and who taught her proper manners so their precious grandchild would be able to take care of herself in the world. She wasn't really too keen on what felt like almost constant nagging, but it did plant the seeds deep inside of her. She loved to listen to grandfather's stories from the World Unification war which had started just mere months after the second world war was over. All the stories of his work as the Gunnery officer of the escort Destroyer Kaya, were fascinating and she couldn't help but to dream of sailing the seas with her family. This came down crashing though, as Kaya's grandfather fell ill and quickly died, giving her his pocket watch that he had gotten from his wife before he enlisted in the navy during the war. She had really grown close to him during all the summers she listened to his stories, and promised she would be an outstanding woman so he wouldn't have to worry in his grave. His death wasn't the only hit to Kaya's life though as her grandmother soon followed her husband. Now all she had was the memories of her grandparents, the dreams they inspired in her, and the watch she had received. With the rather sudden and quick death of her grandparents, Kaya changed. It took her almost half a year of grief, thinking over the time with her grandparents, but she pushed through it while dropping her spoiled attitude. After that, she never asked for anything unnecessary anymore, and started to train an almost martial training regime, spending most of her free time studying and exercising. She didn't have any goal but she wanted to honor the promise she had made to her grandfather.

Women weren't accepted into any country's navy, and Kaya was starting to loose hope with every passing year, but she was in luck as the Free World Navy was established on the same date the millennium changed, January 1st, 2000. She was too young to enlist right away, but went to as many shows that were open to the public, and the day she turned 16, she marched in to the recruitment office to enlist. She filled in the application, took the test to determine which class of ship and role would suit her best, and she passed with flying colours for the position of captain in Destroyers, Cruisers and Battlecruisers. She also got rather high points for the position of navigator, but was set on the path to becoming a captain. She studied for a total of 6 years, becoming the captain and being assigned as the captain of a reserve ship, the Heavy Cruiser Atago, now waiting in her office or aboard her ship for more recruits to come in and fill the ship roster.
